The Yasuni National Park, considered as the best destination for biodiversity in the world, offers a new tourist experience, a unique and innovative project that presents a high profile differentiator and a strong vocation of community entrepreneurship. The Napo Cultural Center offers accommodation of high comfort, quality services, distinctive and personalized 3 eco-friendly cabins-suites and 12 independent rooms, which are located within the Kichwa Añangu Community; environmentally the whole project promotes respect for nature with a spiritual and physical experience, unforgettable moments of adventure for individual passengers and groups, both inside and outside the community; a concept that emphasizes rescuing and improving the quality of life of our people in the Amazonian communities.

 

At a glance

 

DAY 1
Transfer from your hotel to Quito´s airport for your flight to Coca city. PM: arrival to the lodge, check in and later a short walk to Napo river beaches.
DAY 2
AM: Visit to different parrot´s clay licks, the Interpretation´s Center “Kuri Muyu”. PM:  paddling canoe trip and hike in the amazon rainforest with climbing to an observation tower of 35 meters high.
DAY 3
AM: Visit to different communitarian´s projects and others interpretive trails. PM: Kichwa Indigenous Cosmovision with a traditional dinner. Night walk to see different nocturnal life.
DAY 4
AM: Early in the morning, Wayusa ceremony with dream´s interpretation. Back to El Coca city to take the flight to Quito.

What to bring?
  • Good binoculars for wildlife viewing 8×35 mm*
  • Camera/video gear (if using film, lower ASA for open areas (50 or 100), higher ASA for forest (400
    and up). [24 hour electricity (110v) is available for charging batteries and digital equipment.]
  • Clothing: Two or three pairs of lightweight long pants. Two or three long-sleeved lightweight shirts.
    Two or three T-shirts. One or two pairs of shorts (mostly for around the lodge). Lightweight sweater or
    jacket. Raingear (if you prefer not to use the ponchos provided). Three or four pairs of long cotton
    socks (long)*. One pair of sneakers and/or hiking boots. Sandals (Teva type or similar for around the
    lodge). A hat for sun protection (and that will stay on during windy boat rides). Take in consideration
    that bright colors might scare the animals.
  • Sunglasses.
  • Small day pack for excursions. Zip lock-type plastic bags to cover optics or other gear.
  • Insect repellent (Skin-so-soft or DEET product with at least 20% concentration). No inflammable
    sprays as they are not allowed by the airline. Sunscreen lotion with a high SPF factor.
  • Flashlight or headlamp bright enough for use on night walks.
  • Personal toiletries and medications (carry medications with you when arriving and leaving the
    lodge).
  • Extra batteries/film/video tapes as appropriate.
  • Original passport (always good to have while traveling).
  • Credit card Visa, MasterCard and Diners for bar bills and cash (US$) for handicraft purchases.

Detailed itinerary

DAY 1 – Quito – El Coca – Napo Cultural Center (BL, D)

Transfer to Quito airport for your flight to the city Francisco de Orellana better known as El Coca. Assistance will be provided both at the Quito airport and at El Coca to proceed to the transfer to the port called “La Misión” where the canoes of the Añangu community will be approached for a trip of 2 hours approx. During the trip you will be able to observe several types of birds typical of the shores and islands of Napo river, such as kingfishers, sandpipers and other species; as well as beautiful landscapes. Upon arrival, at Napo cultural center, they will have a refreshing drink and a welcome snack, then a talk and the respective cabins will be given in an environment full of Amazonian wildlife, in one of the most biologically diverse places on earth, Yasuni national park. In the afternoon we will take a short walk to reach the banks of the Napo River to enjoy a beautiful sunset on its beaches and natural islands. Return to dinner and rest.

DAY 2 – Parrot Clay Licks – Interpretation Center “KURI MUYU” – Paddling Canoe Ride and Hike in the Amazon rainforest (FB)

Breakfast and departure to board the canoe that will take you to three incredible “saladeros” or lickers of easy access and spectacular sighting, in these places you can observe about 11 species of parrots, parakeets and in certain seasons scarlet macaws, of course depends on the climatic conditions and luck. (This activity is usually successful). We will end the morning with a visit to the Interpretation Center "Kuri Muyu" run by the women of the community here we will learn more about the Kichwa culture, handicrafts, traditions and ancestral uses of natural resources. In the afternoon, you will visit and paddle in the black water ecosystem called Igapo and travel on the Guangana or Kuri Muyo trail to our possible return sighting of alligators and other wildlife on the banks of the Napo river and canyon. Before the day finishes, you will climb to an observation tower of 35 meters high to enjoy a great sunset. Return to the hotel, dinner and accommodation.

DAY 3 – Community visit  – Interpretive walking trails (FB)

Tour of the community projects, we will talk about the Kichwa worldview in addition to medicinal plants and walk along the path “Mama Cuna” or “Samona” excellent opportunity to observe more wildlife, centenary ceibos, matapalos, guadua reed, endemic shrubs and endemic lianas from Yasuní. Of course all depends on several factors such as weather, water level, time, silence, luck etc. We will return to Napo Cultural Center where an exquisite typical traditional farewell dinner awaits us.

DAY 4 – AM: Wayusa ceremony, dream´s Interpretation – Flight back to Quito (B)

We will get up at 4:30 in the morning to share one of the ancestral customs of the Kichwa culture, the taking of wayusa that serves to purify and energize the body and mind by listening to chants in the Kichwa language, then we will participate in the interpretation of dreams where you ask questions and meditation in a peaceful environment. We will return for breakfast and take our luggage to start our trip back to Coca. Flight back to Quito and end of our services.

Changes and additions may be made to optimize wildlife observation, cultural interactions with the local population, and overall enjoyment of the Yasuní National Park.

PAYMENT POLICY:

  • A deposit of US$ 200 per person (non-refundable) is required at the time of booking. Payment must be done 8 days after the confirmation is received.
  • Full payment is required 60 days prior our services are due to begin.
  • Please notify when payment is done with your quotation number. If made with wire transfer a copy of the document is required.

CANCELATION POLICY:

  • If a cancellation occurs within 60 days to 45 days prior our services are due to begin: 50% penalty of the rack rate will be applied.
  • If a cancellation occurs within 44 days to 0 days prior our services are due to begin: 100% penalty of the net rate will be applied.
