Pacific Coast

Pacific Coast or the Ecuadorian Coast is usually as green as the rice fields, with its own mountain ecosystem, rainforests, green forests, fertile lands, and of course, the spectacular beaches of the Pacific Ocean, linked by the “Ruta del Spondylus”. The name of this shell evokes traditions: its speaks of fertility and it was used in rituals performed to bring rain. Spondylus was even used as money and jewelry for our locals called Costeños, decendents of old cultures like Valdividia, Machalilla and other tribes, and some vestiges still remain where our villagers are now guides, divers fishermen and craftsmen.
